Eco – The Product 

Each material has its advantages. Unfortunately, it also has its drawbacks.

Wood, for example, is visually attractive, but it cannot assert itself against rain and cold. Only time-consuming maintenance helps against decay. Concrete, however, is very durable, but it is also difficult to transport. It is simply too heavy for many applications. Besides, concrete gets water marks over the years, and begins to flake. Steel, in turn, is flexible, and can be used for various things, if not for the corrosion! And stainless steel has its price. This also applies to new plastics, where the ecological balance sheet is also devastating.

And then there’s recycled plastic.

Unlike wood or steel, the weather cannot harm it. The plastic is also easy on the back and the purse, in other words: it is lighter than concrete and cheaper than stainless steel. But above all, virtually any product can be made out of this high-tech material. Due to its individual composition, it can be adapted to any application.

What is the thermal conductivity value?

Our material consists of secondary plastics, polyolefin mixes to be exact. The ingredients of these mixes are polyethylenes (LDPE/HDPE) and polypropylene. Since the polyolefin content of our products is over 95 %, we can give you the following thermal conductivity value as a reference value. It is approx. 0.23 [W/mK].

What information does the thermal conductivity value provide?

The thermal conductivity value is measured in [W/mK] (watts per meter and kelvin) and indicates the amount of heat energy that is transported through a material of a certain thickness. Thermal conductivity is a temperature-dependent material constant.

What is the density?

The density is 0.93 g/cm³. (Density is the weight-to-volume ratio.)

What is the meaning of the measurement unit MPa in the technical data?

The measurement unit megapascal (1 MPa = 1 million Pa = 1 N/mm²) indicates e.g. tensile stress at yield.
One pascal is the pressure a force of one newton exerts on an area of one square meter.
1,000,000 Pa = 1 MPa = 10 bar

Which substances are released when burnt?

In the case of fire, some low-molecular weight portions of PE/PP, e.g. paraffins, olefins, and cyclic hydrocarbons, develop from the plastics PE and PP in addition to soot, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and water.

Can our products be painted?

Various tests with a two-component epoxy resin paint, as well as with matt varnishes based on alkyd resin have shown that the paints adhere to the products but – due to temperature-dependent material expansion – will peel off especially on the edges in spite of prior flame impingement and priming. A long-lasting paint adhesion can therefore not be guaranteed.

Are our products frost-proof?

Our products are frost-proof up to -20°C, because their properties do not change within a permanent operating temperature range from -20°C to +50°C. The hydrophobic, i.e. water-repellent characteristics of our recycled plastic products prevent frost damage.

Storing long lengths – rails –

Longer lengths eg. fence rails should be stored as horizontally as possible, on the floor or pallets to avoid any change in shape prior to use.

Are our products like wood to use?

Yes, all wood working tools work perfectly well. Saw as with wood, use any good quality wood screws. For the finish it is  often more visually more pleasing to counter sink the screws.

How much may the linear expansion be on a fence rail?

An expansion gap of about 3mm should be left between rails to allow for any expansion.
